Greetings from Barbie’s Dream Home. Were we not clear that it was a fever dream? Making a Barbie movie is one thing, but having Lady Bird and Little Women director Greta Gerwig helm it is an entirely new animal. The anticipation for its July 21, 2023, release is growing with each new narrative point, poster, and uncovered Letterboxd account we learn about. Even Hollywood celebrities have been snatched up by the movie in its well groomed plastic fists, making it increasingly difficult to stay up. Here are all the information we currently have about Barbie, including the cast, trailer, release date, music, global tour, and underwear merchandise. Come on, dive in.
Barbie movie writing and devlopment
We already know that Gerwig is directing the film and that she is co-writing the screenplay with her husband, Noah Baumbach, who wrote Marriage Story. Amy Schumer’s departure due to creative differences led to Margot Robbie assuming the lead role of the Mattel doll, and Ryan Gosling will play Ken. The two stars have appeared in photos and posters, and if you don’t feel anything when you see either of them, you’re dull!
Schumer left the project because she fervently desired that Barbie Movie be a “ambitious inventor.” She left the project before Gerwig and Baumbach joined it, but only after the studio inquired if Barbie’s invention may be a “high heel made out of Jell-O.” However, that sounds like fun to try on. That was blatantly sexist.The movie featured “a fish-out-of-water story à la Splash and Big, whereby Barbie gets kicked out of Barbieland because she’s not perfect enough, a bit eccentric, and doesn’t fit in,” according to Deadline, and was originally set to be produced by Sony before being picked up by Warner Bros. “She then embarks on an adventure in the real world, and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has realized that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection,” according to the original plot.While the idea of the “real world” has been preserved, this film appears to be more of a meta-examination of girlhood and the influence of Barbie than a tale of individualism. Greta stated at CinemaCon that she and Baumbach “were making each other laugh all the time, and it got to a point where we were making each other cry” when writing the script. He started to try to direct, and I told him to step aside. Star Another hint that the movie was a little high concept was given by Issa Rae. The other Barbies include Issa Rae as President Barbie and Dua Lipa as Mermaid Barbie, who is also contributing music to the soundtrack. Margot Robbie is the original Barbie. Emma Mackey, a star of Sex Education and a Margot Robbie clone, is a Barbie with a Nobel Prize in physics, allowing them both an opportunity to disprove that they are the same person in different fonts. (Now all we need for true ascendancy is for Samara Weaving and Jaime Pressly to join the cast.)Ritu Arya possesses a Pulitzer and is a Barbie. Barbie the doctor is Hari Nef. Barbie’s lawyer is Sharon Rooney. Barbie the Supreme Court Justice is Ana Cruz Kayne, while Barbie the Diplomat is Nicola Coughlan. Barbie who is “a celebrated author” is Alexandra Shipp, while your little sister’s Barbie has a jagged hairdo, crayon all over her face, and is “always in the splits” with Kate McKinnon.
The Kens are another group. Ryan Gosling is Ken, as we all know, but so are Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa. Each of them is unemployed. Being Kens is their job. I had never really gotten to know Ken until that time. When asked about his approach at CinemaCon, Ryan Gosling said, “I didn’t know Ken from the inside. Honestly, I had my doubts about my Kenergy. I missed seeing it. I was induced to say this by Greta and Margot. I was going about my daily business when I decided to bleach my hair one day. I’m leg shaving. and rollerblading around Venice Beach while donning custom neon clothing. It started off feverishly. a scarlet fever, etc. a pink fever, etc. The two wild cards in this group are Michael Cera as Allan in “There’s Only One Allan” and Emerald Fennell as Midge in “She’s Midge”. Our money is on these two ginger outcasts turning evil and toppling Barbie society.
Then there are the people: Helen Mirren as the narrator, America Ferrera, and Ariana Greenblatt. Then there are the boy humans, like Jamie Demetriou (“He’s a suit”), Connor Swindells (“He’s like an intern or something”), and CEO Will Ferrell (“Please call me mother”).
Is Barbie missing anyone?
Evidently, no. The second teaser said that WWE superstar Jon Cena, who is a well-known action figure, will also appear. Even Saoirse Ronan’s casting was rumored, but it was later revealed that she had a conflict.
How does the movie appear?
So there’s that. Technically, the movie led to a worldwide shortage of a particular pink paint color. According to costume designer Jacqueline Durran, “Malibu Barbie is key” because the beach is a crucial location in the film.
